DC XIII International
Improvisation Festival

September 27th - 30th, 2007

Get Involved

The DC International Improvisation Festival is organized by a group of professional performing artists who bring together DC Metro area, national and international improvisational artists. Dancers, musicians, performance artists and actors gather for an exchange of ideas and approaches through performances and workshops. Find information below on how you can be included in these exciting events.

How do I perform in the festival?

This year's festival organizers are still accepting applications from interested artists. Festival organizers welcome serious artists and lovers of improvisation, whether dancers, musicians or actors. Multi-genre work is encouraged.  See the call for proposals for details, and email festival organizers with questions or information.

If applying, please include a short biography, title and a brief outline of the performance in mind. Because this year's festival features only site-specific performances, artists must note the site in which they plan to locate their performance. A bunch of sites within our target area are described on the Performer Resources page.

What other ways can I get involved?

The many ways to get involved with the DC Improv Festival include coming to performances, attending workshops, volunteering at performances or workshops, assisting in organizing the festival, curating a performance, performing or teaching in the festival.

How do I see a performance?

Because this year's improvisation festival features all site-specific work, performances can be viewed very easily. They are located all over Washington, DC, and each one is free. Check this website regularly for updates, as new performances are still being scheduled. And keep your eyes open! You may stumble across part of the Festival in places you least expect.

How do I volunteer?

If you’d like to volunteer and help make this year’s festival a success you should first email us and let us know you’re interested. You can help by ushering at a performance, helping with registration at workshops, distributing flyers or volunteering any unique talents that you possess.

How can I help organizing the festival?

Each year a small group of professional performing artists organize the festival as the official Festival Organizers. They are responsible for overseeing the festival as well as all the press and publicity. If you are interested in being instrumental to the success of the festival, please email us.
